“Fatherlike, He tends and spares us. Well our feeble frame He knows. In His hand He gently bears us. Rescues us from all our foes.”
-H.F. Lyte, 1834
Elisabeth Maynard LPC, MAMFT has been providing therapeutic treatment for patients since 2009, which led to the induction of her private practice, Well Soul Counseling. As a counselor, she is humbled and honored to have the opportunity to come alongside others through life's changes and struggles. She feels a deep sense of purpose in helping others gain insight into brokenness and healing, because it creates personal platforms for ministry and empathy.
Elisabeth is passionate about helping children, adolescents, couples, and families find restoration and wholeness through counseling. Elisabeth's therapeutic approach can be characterized as a balance of biblical foundation mixed with an integrated approach of client-centered, emotion-focused, and family systems therapy.
When we use our hurts to love, encourage and serve others, there is a beautiful transformation that happens. Finding mission, purpose and healing through brokenness is a true representation of the Gospel … finding beauty from ashes.
Elisabeth holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Mississippi, 2004, and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary, 2010.
Elisabeth previously served as a therapist at HeartLife Professional Soul-Care in Germantown, TN, where she worked with children, adolescents, and family systems/parenting. She is experienced and extensively educated in play therapy, Prepare and Enrich premarital training, and group therapy in an in-patient setting.
Life is a beautiful paradox, full of sweet joys and unimaginable sorrows. When life is free of conflict or pain, it is easy to feel well in our souls. But, how can we feel well in our souls when tragedy strikes or when we are walking through moments of deep pain? A man named Horatio G. Spafford lived out the principle of wellness through his deep faith and strong convictions, and his story is one that fuels the mission of Well Soul Counseling. Spafford was a successful businessman until he lost most of his fortune in the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Shortly after that tragic event, his son died of Scarlett Fever. To help his family find healing, Spafford sent his wife and four daughters on a trip to England, where he planned to join them at a later date. Sadly, as the ship was crossing the Atlantic Ocean on its way to England, it sank.
His four daughters, along with many others, lost their lives. His wife, who survived the sinking, sent word to her husband saying, “Saved alone, What shall I do?” Spafford immediately went to be with his mourning wife. While crossing the same ocean, he came to the spot where the tragedy occurred. There, he jotted down the words:
“When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know, It is well, it is well with my soul.” These meaningful words later became part of the famous hymn “It is Well with my Soul,” and they are the words for which Well Soul Counseling is named.
Our deepest desire is to help clients get to a place where they can say, “whatever my lot, it is well in my soul.” Using a holistic and spiritual approach, we seek to help people find inner peace and healing despite the tumultuous waves life has thrown them. “I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.” Psalm 31:7
God cares about the condition of our soul, and it delights Him to carry us through troubles for His glory and our good. We are humbled to come alongside you as you find healing and peace in your soul.
